Baptisms, Weddings and Funerals

at St. Alkmund's

They say that "hatching, matching and despatching" are irresistable plot lines in any soap opera.  They also form an important part of what your local church can do for you - as significant moments in your life and in the life of your family.

Baptisms at St.Alkmund's

Would you like to have your child christened (also called baptism)? St. Alkmund's Church welcomes children and young people every week and would love to help you with your baptism request. A Baptism Service lasts about 30 minutes and there is no cost.

Baptisms usually take place twice a month at either 12 noon or 3.00pm; please book by coming along to church to the Vestry half hour (7.00 to 7.30pm on a Tuesday). If you are unable to do so, then please contact the Rector  (see below). A member of the Baptism Welcome Group will visit you at home to prepare you for the service and collect details of the godparents.

We invite every baptism family back the following month, to be welcomed into the church family at the Worship Together Communion Service, held on the first Sunday of every month at 10:00am.

Weddings at St.Alkmund's

Are you looking to get married?  St. Alkmund's Church is a great venue and you are welcome to a church wedding, whether or not you have been baptised and whatever your beliefs.  Your children are welcome too.  You don't have to get married on a Saturday, or in white, or say "obey".  If you live in Whitchurch, or can demonstrate a connection with the church or the town, you can marry at St. Alkmund's Church.

A national independent survey reveals that couples love saying their vows in a beautiful church (St. Alkmund's is a very beautiful church, we hope you would agree); getting to know their local Vicar/Rector; being close to family and friends, past and present and to God, and that it's good value.  A wedding at St. Alkmund's this year costs £489 plus local fees of £178 (verger and organist) and a £49 donation towards general running costs.  Other services include: the church bells rung before and after the service which costs £150 and £100 for the choir. Bringing the total, when all options are included, to £966.
